Nowadays, fast-paced lifestyles make it hard for both women and men to maintain a good appearance, so laser is the way to go. But if you aren't sure yet if this is the procedure for you, we've compiled a list of the most common questions about laser hair removal and answered them all here, just for you. Let's see if laser hair removal is for you!

Am I eligible?

Laser hair removal is appropriate for people of all ages and genders. Darker hair follicles are more attracted to laser light, so they are more likely to be removed permanently by laser light. Those with blonde, red, or white hair are the only candidates not eligible; Laser Hair Removal Treatments won't work on them.

Is this treatment painful?

Older lasers were infamous for being quite uncomfortable, but we have come a long way in improving their painlessness. Currently, lasers are faster, which means less energy is lost hitting your skin. There are also cooling technologies deployed so laser light cannot harm you.

Is it a long process?

It is generally a fast procedure, but it depends on your unique situation. Usually, five minutes is enough to treat a small area such as the upper lip or chin. Larger areas, such as the legs or back, may take up to 30 minutes.

How does the treatment work?

Laser light is sent down the hair shaft, damaging the follicle. Short, intense light pulses are produced, causing the follicle to become inactive.

When the hair is still tightly attached to the follicle; and the heat is allowed to penetrate, it can damage the follicle.

Hair growth involves periods of dormancy, shedding, and regrowth. Laser treatments can only target the hairs that are actively growing, as hair does not grow at the same rate at all times. Other strands will need removal later. It's for this reason that you need multiple sessions for hair removal.

How do sessions work?

Laser treatments can target between 25 and 70% of your hair at any specific time. Depending on the stage in which your hair is at the moment, the exact percentage will vary. The hair will fall out, and the damaged follicles will not be able to grow hair as quickly and thickly as they did before.

Suppose you have 1,000 hairs on your target area, so the first treatment removes 35% of them. It leaves you with only 650 hair. If you get another 35% of the laser's power at the next session, you will have only 423 hair left. Just two sessions and your hair density in the target area will drop by half!

The number of hairs in the target area would be less than 150 after three treatments at this rate. Your final goal will require multiple treatments; however, the results will be dramatic.

What is the ideal interval between sessions?

Following hair removal, your hair will regrow. You should space your appointments 4 to 6 weeks apart. Your hair will regrow thinner and softer after each session and cover less area.

Are there any risks?

With lasers, the most common risk is damage to the eyes. Each of you should wear goggles tailored to the laser you will be using. It is normal to experience some redness and swelling, as well as blisters and scarring.

Does laser hair removal require any downtime?

Once your treatment is over, you should be able to go back to work or continue with your day. During or shortly after hair removal, you will notice that some hairs fall out. For about 21 days, this trend will continue - right when it's about time to reschedule your next appointment. The sun can also cause discoloration of your skin if you don't use sunscreen.

Is a spa visit okay, or should I consult a doctor?

This therapy does not require you to visit a doctor's office, but you may need a physician's presence. A specific type of laser is necessary for laser hair removal. Your doctor will examine you and determine the most appropriate laser.
