QUESTION
Hi Amanda,
It feels a bit scattered in my house, everyone is in their own rooms, none of us sit together in the dining area. Is there a way to encourage family time by making a simple change?
Love,
Marley!
ANSWER
Hi Marley,
There’s nothing better than home, where you can forget all your problems and where eating and watching TV together are the highlights of the day.
A family home’s dining and living areas are the main focus, as we spend most of our time there, in addition to the kitchen, and deserve a lot of attention, for the colors here have a tremendous impact on the way we feel in this space.
In a room, even if the colors are generally pleasing to the eye, there is more to its energy than just looking pretty. It’s about comfort, relaxation, and feeling safe to connect with one another and the feeling can mean so much!
1. Keep the room’s atmosphere in line with its purpose.
Warm and welcoming family rooms and dining areas are important because they directly influence how people interact and the quality time spent together.
When I see dull or neutral color palettes in these areas, I can tell there’s not much going on. It’s easy to think a neutral color palette for furniture and walls will be good, but the dullness only creates more dullness. Do you want your guests to be mellow and resigned or do you want them to feel warmly welcomed and open up?
2. Be aware that everything has energy.
Art, flowers, crystals, furniture, and the like all have their own energy. With these accents, you can bring personality, flair, and life to the room. You should consider how this all comes across and what it represents, even subconsciously, to the people in the room.
3. Decide on a color palette and work from there.
In family and dining settings, warm colors like orange, yellow, green, or red create excitement and are energizing.
The shades you choose should reflect the tones that appeal to everyone at home — but make sure to strike a balance. You don’t need to spend a fortune to redo the decor and repaint the walls, you can even make just a few changes. Let these shades remind you of warm days and summer flowers.
4. Add accessories to the room.
Add pillows, throws, rugs, happy pictures, crystals, and flowers instead of changing the upholstery, paint, or floor coverings. Flowers help to shift the space’s frequency by bringing in new energies and bringing life to it.
It’s best to avoid dried flowers as much as possible and buy fresh flowers regularly. Bring some sparkle by adding something shiny here and there. Start small and go slow – try a few things at a time and see how it goes.
You can also play with curtains or add accents to your windows. Mix and match the cutlery and placemats too.
5. Let the sunshine in.
Explore ways to bring more sunlight into your family room so it’s inviting for family and guests alike. They’ll all feel the difference and the shift in energy, whether or not they’re aware of it.
I hope you will find these ideas to revamp your home interior useful and don’t forget to let me know if it turns out well.
Love,
Amanda!
