QUESTION

Hi Amanda,

After getting into an accident, I’ve been hospitalized. Seeing as my family isn’t around, how can I talk to someone who feels like my best friend? As I’m always sharing things with others, how do I deal with this while in a hospital room?

Love,

Jay!

ANSWER

Hi Jay,

I know it feels good to have someone you can count on when you’re all alone in the hospital. But not to worry man, nurses are dedicated healthcare workers, providing comfort, respite, and vital care to patients in need. They are the unsung heroes of emergency rooms, angels among us, and hard workers. If you still need convincing, here are 6 reasons why nurses can be your best friends in the hospital:

1.) Nurses are patient and compassionate: Nurses will listen to you ramble on about the headache you’re having and your fears regarding an MRI.

2.) Nurses tackle anything: Nurses are trained to deal with emergencies and worse-case scenarios in a cool manner. Each day brings a new set of personalities and ailments, which nurses handle with grace. Nurses are ready for whatever their day brings.

3.) Nurses are selfless givers: I know several nurses who are selfless givers. Despite being on their feet for 10-12 hours a day, they remain kind and respectful to each patient. Each day, they give so much of themselves to others.

4.) Nurses don’t mind getting their hands dirty: They’ve witnessed a lot. Through good, bad, and ugly, nurses take on the role of helping patients. Despite all that, they still manage to have a great sense of humor! Nurses know how to make others feel at ease and when to make a joke.

5.) Nurses are a total fashionistas: They make scrubs look great. Who else can wear sweatpants all day and look put together?

6.) Nurses make you feel safe: Nurses are the first people you see when you walk into a hospital. Nurses are your first point of contact, whether you’re getting admitted or getting ready to see a doctor.

Those are some reasons why nurses can be your best friends in the hospital.

Love,

Amanda!
