QUESTION

Hi Kiara,

I’m thinking about going on vacation with a guy I’ve been dating recently. Now that we’ve spent evenings and weekends together, I’m looking forward to preparing for our vacation. So, I was wondering, can you tell me, how do we know if we’re ready to take off?

Love,

Josie!

ANSWER

Hi Josie,

Things are probably pretty exciting for you when you start a new relationship. You agonize over how to reply when you see that person and get butterflies every time you see them. Your new love is making your heart grow fonder, and you may even be considering taking a romantic vacation.

It may be a smart idea to wait just a short while before booking two seats together for a long weekend getaway, no matter how smoothly things are progressing. Taking a vacation should be reserved for couples who have been happily together for seven months.

According to a survey, one-fifth of couples who attempted to embark on a holiday together before seven months ended up breaking up. And about eight percent of respondents said they ended their relationship before they got home. It happens because couples who are just starting their relationship are not familiar enough with each other to cope with vacation stress.

But usually, a joint vacation is best planned at the 10-month mark. So, if you’re dreaming of a romantic getaway with your new sweetheart, maybe hold off until you know what it will be like to be stuck on an airline delay together.

Love,

Kiara!
