With the arrival of the monsoon, we have many uninvited guests such as cockroaches, mosquitoes, and centipedes who infiltrate our homes. So, to tackle this menace, we use a range of insect repellents like sprays, cakes, and chemicals. But, these might prove risky, especially for our kids and elderly occupants. Hence, here are a few home remedies to keep all these multi-legged and winged visitors at bay. Try these remedies, it works well:
1.) Mosquitoes bring many diseases:
To stop the arrival of mosquitoes, you need to plant marigolds near doors and windows. It prevents their entry into our homes. Also, boil around 6-7 minced garlic cloves in a glass of water. When the liquid is reduced half, put it in a spray bottle. Since garlic has a foul smell, you can add some 2-3 drops of essential oils like lavender to balance it. Then spray this mixture inside your home when required.
You know, the odor of sprayed garlic juice becomes undetectable to humans within minutes, but it lasts for a longer time for mosquitoes. Hence, this home remedy works the best. Also, try placing a few balls of camphor in the house for 15-20 minutes. It prevents the entry of mosquitoes into our place.
2.) Flies are dangerous:
Eucalyptus oil helps in repelling flies. So, just pour a few drops of it on a cotton cloth, and place it on the areas where flies are in significant quantity. Also, you can hang bay leaves, cloves, and eucalyptus at your doors to restrict the entry of flies. Other than this, set a fly trap at a place far away. You can also keep a bowl of sugar water so that the flies start getting trapped in the sweet water, and the dead becomes an attractant to the live ones.
3.) Cockroaches are yuck:
So, to eliminate cockroaches, make sure to mic sugar and baking soda in a dish. Then place another dish or a lid close to the first one. Then just fill it with water. Sugar helps in acting as a bait to attract cockroaches and baking soda helps in killing them. You simply heave to figure out their hideouts and then sprinkle this mixture in those corners. Another trick is adding Neem oil. It helps in killing cockroaches. Mix Neem oil with water and spray it where you have spotted the cockroaches. If you do not have neem oil, then crush some bay leaves and sprinkle them in your cupboards, where you will spot them.
4.) Centipedes are unhealthy:
So, just put 25 drops of peppermint oil in one cup of water. Then pour this mixture into a spray bottle and spray this solution along all entryways at your home. It helps in restricting their entry. Another method is to take one cup of water, add one up rubbing alcohol, and then add one teaspoon of vegetable oil. Then you add this mixture to a spray bottle and sprinkle it on flower beds and plants to restrict their entry.
Diseases that are common during monsoon diseases:
1.) Malaria: This is one of the most common mosquito-borne diseases that happen in India. It spreads through the bite of female Anopheles mosquitos. Many studies have proved that almost 90% of the population suffers from this disease. Symptoms such as muscle pain, and recurring fever are common in Malaria. Also, to avoid the spread of malaria, you should try some home remedies to restrict the entry of repellents into your place.
2.) Zika Virus: This is again a mosquito-borne flavivirus. This is usually been recorded in Africa, America, and the Pacific. It is caused by Aedes mosquitoes, which bite during the day. The symptoms include mild fever, conjunctivitis, joint pain, and headache.
3.) Japanese encephalitis Filariasis: This is caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV). Mosquitoes spread it. In this virus, wild birds and Pigs serve as a reservoir for this virus.
