Would my boyfriend pay for my hair, nails, and coffee QUESTION

Hi Kiara,

In your opinion, is it reasonable for me to expect my boyfriend to pay for my nails, hair, and coffee from time to time, considering that I am a professional woman? For me, gifts are the language of love. We both earn well. However, he does not feel it is necessary to get them for a woman of her age. Do I resent him for it?

Love,

Josie!

ANSWER

Hi Josie,

Girl, I completely understand how you feel. As a self-sufficient individual, I never try to put myself in a position where I have to depend on others. Still, it does feel good to be spoiled once in a while. In all honesty, I don’t find it absurd that men fork out money for things like this to make me feel special since they should do more to make me feel pampered. If they don’t, I will probably find someone else. It is my right to be treated like these 20 Something girls, even though I work for a huge corporation. Lol. If he is not that type of man who loves to spend on women, then go find one!

He was supposed to be thoughtful about this stuff, right? You know as a little love token, I occasionally pay for my boyfriend’s haircut when I see he’s getting one. In return, I get to do something I fancy. Getting my nails done is sometimes part of my love lingo, and I’m always willing to get them done for a little treat. If you’ve asked for a treat a few times and he calls it being used, I’d rethink staying with him. After all, he’s not sponsoring your lifestyle.

Ultimately, you’ve got to deal with it. The golden rule is to treat others in the same way you want to be treated. It is something we should consider in future events as well.

Love,

Kiara!
