In the run-up to Holi, I am receiving a steady stream of emails asking for Holi game ideas. Each year on Holi, people take a day off from work, share sweets with loved ones, and create memories to relive for years to come.
It is hands down one of our favorite festivals. It is full of color, dance, food, and joy. Almost every part of the country celebrates this festival as a sign of the triumph of good over evil. Holi is all about letting loose and going crazy with colors. It would be fun to plan a few games that everyone can enjoy since Holi is a festival that is celebrated in large groups.
I am sharing my top 15 Holi games for this year to help you get in the spirit. Here are some of my picks.
It is Bucket Blast!
You can probably guess that this Holi game involves getting soaked! To play, each player must carry a mug with holes at the base over one’s head and fill a bucket within the allotted time frame. The first person to fill the bucket wins.
The coin is waiting for you!
In this party game, players look for a coin in colorful water. What a simple; yet entertaining idea!
A Balloon Knitting Project.
It is a one-minute party game in which participants are asked to pick up water-filled balloons with knitting needles and place them in a second vessel without bursting them.
Let’s pop the balloons.
I recommend adding this to your family’s game collection. In this game, you need to pop balloons on your opponents to get them wet first!
Race to Hurdle Holi.
Are you looking for Holi office games? Then this is for you. Set up a racecourse with small obstacles like filling a bucket with water using pichkari or filling water balloons. Let’s see who can finish the race first.
It’s sponge time!
It’s the same concept as passing a parcel. I think you’ll love ‘pass the sponge’ as a Holi party game idea. In this game, everyone sits in a circle, passes a wet sponge soaked in colored water, and the person on whom the music stops gets to do the dare.
Balloons in the air!
There is no better game for couples than this one. The goal of this game is to collect as many water balloons as possible thrown by your partner. It is totally up to you how far apart you want them to stand.
The power of flowers!
Couples will enjoy playing this game. It is one of my favorites. In this game, one partner goes out; and collects flowers, while the other creates a garland from them. The clock is counting down, so hurry up!
Tambola hour.
Tambola certainly is worth mentioning if you’re looking for Holi games, right? It is one of the most exciting Holi games with multiple players, and it never gets old. So grab your Tambola set and give it a go.
Paint Me Pretty.
The game is played in pairs, with one person coloring the other’s face using Holi colors (preferably organic ones), but with artistic skill! You will need 2-3 judges who will select a winner based on their talent.
Balloons abound.
The game will be played in two groups, each consisting of two players who will pass the water balloons from one bucket to the other from the first person to the last person in the group. Each team will use odd and even passing methods when passing the balloons. As one passes over the head, the next person passes under the legs. The team with the most balloons collected will be declared the winner.
The #HoliHai phrase!
It is a really fun game to play at your kitty party. In this game, people must write “Holi Hai” as many times as they can on paper with their left hand. Of course, a left-handed person faces a right-handed challenge.
The drink is delicious!
The list of Holi games would be incomplete without this one. Keep a set of unique tasting drinks and blindfold the participants. Ask them to guess which drinks they’re tasting. The person who correctly identifies the most drinks is the winner.
Water-saving jump!
During this activity, each participant holds a cup of water and then jumps or skips the rope; or any other hurdle. Make sure to avoid spilling the water from the mug when doing this. Whoever saves the most is the winner.
Animate Holi Things!
The host needs sheets of paper and pens to play this game. Then have each player draw Holi-related items within a minute, such as dhols, water guns, water pistols, balloons, etc.
I hope you and your guests have fun playing these games during Holi! It is just a shortlist of fun party games. These can always be customized, and you can come up with your versions. Please, however, keep safe and clean throughout the Holi celebrations so that you can have a memorable time. Wishing you all a wonderful Holi!
