One of the initial things that we try to change when we decide to get into shape or cut down on some extra kilos is our eating habit – more specifically, how much we eat. Though eating too much will make us gain weight, at the same time, not eating enough can be a concern too! While we do adopt a healthy lifestyle for ourselves by taking lots of nutritious food, what we miss out on is taking enough food! Yes, with eating right we also need to make sure that we are eating sufficient. 

There could be many reasons why a person is not eating enough, including individual restrictions on food, decreasing appetite, busy lifestyle, stress, or various other reasons. But whatever be the root cause, undereating can cause serious health issues over time! But luckily, the human body can tell when you are not eating enough.

1. Irregular Menstrual Cycle:

The hormones in your body are largely dependent on the food you eat. Not consuming the right amount of food can negatively affect how these hormones act in your body! Under-eating, if doubled with excessive weight loss, will impact your menstrual cycle and even cause the body to stop menstruating. If your periods are not regular because of eating too little or even exercising too much, it is a sign from the body that it is not functioning properly. Hence, make sure you do not miss out or take these signs too lightly! 

2. Sluggishness never leaves you:

We all know that food is the fuel to our body. The body uses this fuel to produce energy and keep us going throughout the day. But not eating enough will lead to lesser energy production in the body. And this leaves the body feeling sluggish and exhausted throughout. Your body won’t be functioning at the same speed that it would otherwise. It might happen that even with a good sleeping pattern or physical activity, you might still end up feeling tired the whole day. It is another sign for you to level up your calories!

3. You frequently experience constipation:

Your diet has a direct impact on your bowel movement. And in case you are not having a regular bowel movement or as many times as it should be, you need to reconsider your eating habits. Your body might not find enough food to convert it into stool, and this condition could be problematic over time. So, make sure you eat foods like whole grains, legumes, fruit, and vegetables. Taking such foods will level up your fiber intake, which is crucial for making us feel full, feeding the healthy bacteria in our gut, and keeping a regular movement of bowels! So, you will have to consider having sufficient food, rich in fiber and nutrition, to make sure up do not end up feeling constipated. 

4. You experience hair loss:

Another sign from your body that shows you have not taken enough food is when you experience excessive hair fall. The hair loss is much more than usual with such eating habits. Studies have shown that reducing our calorie or protein intake will impact our hair growth. In the longer run, deficiency of essential nutrients, proteins, zinc, fatty acids can lead to a severe condition of hair fall called telogen effluvium. But the good news is you can reverse this by eating the right amount of healthy food and rejecting restrictive eating habits! 

5. You get irritated very easily:

If you start being annoyed, irritated, angry at the smallest of things, it could be related to your eating habits. Yes, you hear me right. Your mood or the way you feel about things around is, at large, dependent on the food that goes within. And starving can never put you into a good mood. 

So, to keep yourselves in a happy, well-balanced mood, make sure you consume enough food.

Adding nutrient-rich foods like nuts, fruits, whole grains, vegetables will add more calories along with all the essential vitamins and minerals to your body.
