Hi,
Petrica!
This month of the year has been exciting for all fashion enthusiasts, including me!
After a long gap of two years, the much-anticipated Met Gala made its way back with American Fashion as the night’s theme. And I like the fact that you have written a couple of blogs on this year’s event. Honestly, I loved the one where you wrote about the theme of this year.
I read your other blog, and the looks you picked for the best dress are my favorites too! I love the fact that we’ve such similar choices when it comes to fashion and it made me all the more curious about the best appearances from the past few years.
So, I feel you’re the right person to help me out with some of the best gala looks from yesteryears.
Love,
Nicole
Hey Nicole!
Thank you for always reading my blogs and coming up with such overwhelming responses. Yes, you’re right. The 2021 Met Gala gave us outstanding beauty moments riffing on the theme of American Fashion.
Ever since its first show, this event has been an annual playground for celebrities to display their glamour. So, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has witnessed iconic styles that have sparked trends, for sure!
So, here I have the best Met Gala looks from the last five years.
2021 In America: A Lexicon of Fashion
LOOK#1 Iman
Alongside other celebrities like Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, and many others, Iman’s stunning golden brocade costume was the show-stopper of the night. The American model graced the red carpet in a dramatic Harris Reed outfit.

Iman wore a golden bustier with matching flared trousers with a feathery hoop skirt layered on them. But her headgear was the ultimate winner! The feathery headgear had golden leaves etched on the sides and the center of the piece. It almost seemed like a glowy halo!
2019 Camp: Notes on Fashion
LOOK#1 Lady Gaga
The 2019 Met Gala was all about going overboard with fashion. And who do you think did it better than Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga certainly became the perfect camp enchantress by outdoing herself in four different outfits. Yes! all of that happened on the red carpet itself. She stepped in a hot pink cape dress by Brandon Maxwell. This dress literally had a never-ending train attached to the back. She brought in all the pomp & show with personal photographers, dancers, and makeup artists.

As if this massive gown was not enough, her designer revealed the second look, which was a full-length black corset dress. Before reaching the stairs, Gaga managed to change into two more outfits!

LOOK#2 Billy Porter
Another outfit that made a mark in the Camp year has to be the Egyptian Sun God look of Billy Porter.

The Pose actor made a glorious entry on a litter carried by six men! He draped in an all-golden dazzling catsuit by The Blonds and added a 24-carat gold headgear. He paired it up with custom-made gold-leaf Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. We think his look from the 2019 Gala made a perfect fit for a king!

2018 Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination
LOOK#1 Rihanna
Rihanna nailed the red carpet in 2019 with the spectacular cape by Margiela.

She wore a pearl etched robe and paired it with a matching papal miter and neckpiece to complete Catholicism inspired look. She went in with glittery silver heels by Christian Louboutin. Her makeup was on point, with dark smokey eyes and bleached eyebrows.
Yes, Riri is a true red carpet queen! Do not miss out on her looks from the previous years.
2017 Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art of the In-Between
Look#1 Rihanna
Riri won our hearts in the previous year too! The singer once again was successful in winning the theme of the Met Gala.

Rihanna did not turn away from bold fashion statements and came in a Comme des Garcons. Her seemingly impossible outfit was a tribute to Rei because this badass flower bomb had cuts in the shape of three-dimensional petals. She paired it with a lovely pair of thigh-high lace-up sandals from Dsquared2.
So, these were all the looks from the last four years that I felt made their mark in the Met Gala history. Nicole, I hope you enjoyed reading this blog and please leave a comment below if you want to see more such content on Met Gala.
With Love,
Petrica!
