On the 13th of September 2021, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York witnessed the most glamorous fashion night. The crowd at the entrance of the Museum blared up with oohs and aahs on seeing the stars walk down the red carpet. Celebrities, fashion designers, models walked the red carpet while spreading oomph and panache with their stunning outfits. The event brought in a touch of Gen Z style with Lil Naz, Billie Eilish, Timothee and joined with the classics like Jennifer Lopez.

Every year the Met Ball is full of surprises! This year was no exception. 2021 has treated us with some of the most stunning looks with Kendall Jenner, Lil Naz X, Billie, and many more. Kendall Jenner left hearts to flutter at the red carpet with her glitzy sheer gown. Check out the above video by Vogue, where Kendall gets ready for the Gala.

However, the red carpet witnessed some outlandish, bold looks too!
Some of them, including Alexandria Ocasio, Cara Delevingne, Carolyn Maloney, made some noise with their statement looks. They came up with impactful messages written on their outfits. But that one look which is still a hot topic of conversation has to be of Kim Kardashian. It is needless to say that with the N number of memes on the internet, Kim has concreted her look for the years to come!

Though a lot of confusion was going around at first glance, Kim’s silhouette made its way through the theme of American fashion. As she rightly posted on her Instagram, “What’s more American than a T-Shirt head to toe?!” She caused a stir on the red carpet in an all-black look in a Balenciaga dress that covered every inch of her body. Yes, her face too!

In this blog, we bring you some stunning outfits that stole the show, along with some others that did not make it up to the mark. (P.S. these were some of the looks that drew OUR attention, choices may vary)

Best Dressed from Met Gala 2021

Kendall Jenner

On a personal level, I still cannot get over this magical look! This Hollywood Supermodel, hands down, tops our list of best dressed. She graced the red carpet in a sheer Givenchy gown embellished with glittering jewels. Her look was a tribute to Hollywood’s classic style icon, Audrey Hepburn. As she says, she took the inspiration from Audrey Hepburn’s dress in My Fair Lady. Adding extra glitz to her look were her heavily jeweled choker and shoulder pieces. The sleek-bun hairstyle perfectly finishes the whole look by adding a modern touch to it. All-in-all, Kendall just stole our hearts!

Iman

The next look on the list has to be of Iman. Do you believe in angels? If not, Iman is here in this dazzling golden costume designed by Harris Reed with the support of Dolce & Gabbana. She decked up in a divine-looking goldern bustier with flared golden pants. The bottom part had layered up with an overskirt embellished with shiny feathers. But the star of her look has to be the headpiece. It became the show-stopper at the event. The headpiece was more like a crown with three layers of feathers in a circle shape.

Billie Eilish

This Gen Z star broke away from her neon-green gothic style. Billie stepped on the red carpet wearing a gorgeous peachy-nude gown by Oscar de la Ranta. She ditched her usual oversized T-shirt and switched to a full blooming evening gown. Interestingly, she too took inspiration from the classics of Hollywood. Her blond short, soft curls made her look like the American sweetheart, Marilyn Monroe.

Timothee Chalamet

We think that this casual yet chic look of Timothee stole the show, for sure! The handsome Gen Z star wore Haider Ackermann to the Gala. Each year, we see celebrities wearing the most bizarre of outfits to the red carpet. But Timothee brought in comfort and style together with an all-white cropped jacket and loose trousers. Pairing it up with white converse, he kept the look casual and fuss-free.

Rihanna

Last but not least to this list of best-dressed has to be Rihanna. The literal queen of the red carpet has already concreted her name in the 2015 list with a yellow Guo Pei gown. This year too, the American singer has amazed us with her all-black look! She wore a stunning Balenciaga overcoat and a black hat from Stephen Jones Millinery. The outfit interpreted the American fashion with oversized ruffles around the collar. Her jewelry, particularly the black ring from Thelma West Diamonds, centered on Black jewelry designers. Rihanna, with her boyfriend A$AP Rocky, truly created magic on the red carpet.

Moving ahead, we have some of the outfits from the Gala that we feel did not stand out.

  • Noami Osaka

Though Noami Osaka co-chaired the event, we did not clearly understand her gala ‘fit! She went in to pay tribute to her roots in a colorful Louis Vuitton gown. But the coordination seemed a bit off for us. We feel that the most disastrous point of her entire look was the weird hairstyle. We’re sorry, Noami, your message was not clear to us!

  • Pete Davidson

Another outfit that confused us was the odd black dress layered with a three-fourth sleeved white coat by Pete Davidson. The American Comedian was wearing Thome Browne. We have seen him experimenting a lot with fashion in the last few years. Unfortunately, this time it did not turn out well for him. We loved his neckpieces from Fred Leighton and Kwiat. But somehow, the entire look did not go well for us.

  • Lorde

The final look that disappointed us was of Lorde! She wore an all-white outfit from Emily Bode. Lorde wore a front open jacket with a short train attached to it and paired it with a matching front-slit skirt. Her entire costume had colorful beads etched on it. She tried to come up with a different look, but it somehow did not look proportionate to us.

So, this was all we had about the best and the worst outfits from the Gala this year. Do let us know in the comments below if you have some other looks in your mind! Also, did you check our previous blog on some of the meaningful outfits from this year?
